The proverbs were only written down in, I believe, the 13th century, by which time Buddhism was almost extinct in India. Plus, teachings flowed from India to Tibet but not in the reverse direction (Indians considered Tibetans semi-savage.) So there was no occasion to come up with a Sanskrit term.
